Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma was sentenced to three months imprisonment by Mumbai’s Andheri Magistrate Court on Tuesday (January 21) in a check bounce case.
The court said- Ram Gopal Verma will have to pay Rs 3.72 lakh to the complainant within 90 days. If they do not do so, they will have to undergo three more months of imprisonment.
This matter was going on for the last 7 years. Ram Gopal Verma was not present in the court during the hearing. Due to this, a non-bailable warrant has been issued against him.
Ram Gopal Varma is 62 years old. He has been active in the industry for the last 35 years.
Ram Gopal Varma is on bail Ram Gopal Varma’s firm had paid Rs 2.38 lakh through check to a company named ‘Shri’. This check bounced. The company had filed a case against Ram Gopal through Maheshchandra Mishra. In 2022, Verma got bail in this case on a personal bond of Rs 5000. Now the court found him guilty and sentenced him to 3 months in jail.
The crime under which Ram Gopal Verma has been sentenced comes under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
