New Delhi. Indian Grandmaster Inian Panneerselvam has won the 9th Johor International Open Chess tournament in Malaysia. 22 -year -old Inian of Erode, Tamil Nadu, scored 8.5 points in nine games. He defeated four International Masters and a Grandmaster, while holding 1.5 point ahead of his opponent.

The nine -round tournament ended on Thursday. In which 84 participants from eight countries participated, out of which 24 players were titled. Even before the final round, Inian had confirmed the title by defeating Indonesian IM Nayaka Budhidharma. He was ahead by 1.5 points in the points table.

In the final round, Inian performed brilliantly by defeating Vietnamese GM Guayen Van Hui. Indian IM VS Rahul and Chinese IM Lee Bo finished second and third respectively. Inian who also won the Chennai Open in January. He scored 15 rating points from this title win.

Panneerselvam is the 71st player of India to be awarded the title of Grandmaster by Inian Fide. He acquired the first GM criteria at the “Seyutat de Montada” Open in June 2017, second at Bobbing Open in February 2018, Barbera del Vallece Open in July 2018. Apart from this, the fourth position in Andora Open in 2017, Kopa Vapa in January 2018, was ranked second after Richard Report in Vergani.
