New Delhi. Indian team’s star batsman Shubman Gill himself has admitted that batting in Test cricket is a matter of concern for him. Punjab team had to face a shameful innings defeat in the Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka in Bengaluru. After flopping in the first innings, he scored a century in the second innings but could not save the team from defeat. Gir said that he puts a lot of pressure on himself after a good start of 25-30 runs, which leads to losing focus and concentration.
Recently, in the five-match series against Australia, Gill could score only 93 runs in three Tests for India. Due to his poor performance he had to face a lot of criticism. Gill told Hindustan Times, “Red-ball (Test cricket) batting is a matter of concern. Sometimes I feel that in the matches I play with the red ball, I get a very good 25-30 runs. I think sometimes at such times I put too much pressure on myself that I have to score big runs. I think that’s not the way I grew up playing my game,”
Shubman Gill, who made his Test debut against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the year 2020, believes that he goes into a zone where he puts too much pressure on himself. Gill said, “There is a certain zone that I am in, there is a certain intention that I am in, and sometimes I feel I lose it because I put too much pressure on myself that now I have to score big runs because I am set. I feel that in those crucial moments, sometimes I lose my focus and concentration. I think it keeps you in the game all the time.”
